Thank you everyone for contributing!!! And FORGIVE me If I didn't use yours this week. I had over 40 songs sent to me. I tried to pick a wide selection. We will do this again!

Now for my picks:
My Personal Favorites :) For me, it's impossible to pick just three. I FEEL for all of you trying to pick "just two"

Band Name:Pretenders...."Back on the Chain Gang"
This song, sung by Chrissie Hynde.. The song was originally going to be about Ray Davies, leader of the band The Kinks. Lead vocalist/guitarist Chrissie Hynde and Davies were a couple and had a daughter together, but the meaning of the song changed after James Honeyman-Scott, the Pretenders guitarist, died of a drug overdose at the age of 25 in 1982.
Back on the Chain Gang

Band Name:Phoebe Snow..."Somewhere Between Old and New York"
Phoebe Snow is a personal Hero to me. In December 1975 she gave birth to a severely mentally impaired daughter, Valerie Rose. Snow resolved not to institutionalize Valerie, and cared for her at home until Valerie died on March 18, 2007 at the age of 31. Snow's efforts to care for Valerie nearly ended her career. Phoebe Snow suffered a cerebral hemorrhage on January 19, 2010 and slipped into a coma, enduring bouts of blood clots, pneumonia, and congestive heart failure. Snow died on April 26, 2011 at age 60. R.I.P Phoebe, you are missed.
Old And New York

Band Name:Patti Smith....."Frederick"
Patti is an American singer-songwriter, poet and visual artist, who became a highly influential component of the New York City punk rock movement with her 1975 debut album Horses. This song is about her husband Fred "Sonic" Smith, the marriage started the running joke that she married him so she wouldn't have to change her name. Fred Smith died on November 4, 1994, of a heart attack. Shortly afterward, Patti faced the unexpected death of her brother Todd and original keyboard player. This song is still one of the Sweetest tributes to love I know.
Frederick

As I stated last week, We want YOUR songs! PLEASE though, don't send more than 2 suggestions at a time.
If you find NEW stuff to suggest, feel free to send, just don't keep sending the same song over and over :) If you wish to suggest music, you must PRIVATE message me directly with the link and the subject line "Suggestion for Music". It would help me a GREAT deal if you would also include the name of the band and the song with your video clip. I am running into removed videos and I have no way to search w/o information included. Also, If you discover I did NOT use your particular clip It's usually because it isn't available, isn't playing properly or has a long commercial in front of it. I will try to search out a good version when this happens.

Theme for next week "Lost Love". What does that mean? It means lyrics about the one that got away. Can be that sad, "You left me alone" type or the angry "How could you do this??!!" type. What's YOUR favorite Heartsick, unrequited, or lost love song?

Congrats to:

Oh, I do love those first two selections! I had heard all souls night before but never caught the name of the artist or song, and running up that hill was one of my favorites, too. :)

KittisbatJul 02, 2012 2:35 pm
I love Running Up That Hill! I completely forgot about it for this event, though. I know there's a little fued on the internet about whether the Placebo remake or Kate Bush's original is better, but it's definitely the original. Sorry Placebo.

I can't believe I haven't participated in this before. I'm looking forward to entering again.

-smacks forehead- Even though I've been doing the archive, I've forgotten to submit music for the last two weeks! D'oh!

Kami - I *LOVE* All Souls Night.

I'll listen through the rest later. :)

SashaJul 02, 2012 3:25 pm
thank you for choosing my suggestion of Tina Arena's I'm in Chains. It has to be one of my all time favorite songs.
There is such a varied selection this week I'm having fun clicking each song open and smiling as they play. I love them all this week!

Somewhere Between Old and New York is one of my faves too Alex!

AlliraJul 02, 2012 3:48 pm
I first saw Tina Arena when she was 7 years old. She was a contestant on a popular Australian talent show called Young Talent Time. She used her actual name "Pina" (her name is Filipina) and she sang "Rock Me" by Abba. She was so good that a few weeks later she became an actual performer on the show and her name was now Tina. My favourite song of hers is Wasn't it Good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uLFclZRx3I

I always loved Kate Bush. I was going to suggest Wuthering Heights but that brings back bad memories for me as just about the time was song first released I was studing the novel Wuthering Heights for my final school year exams lol.

I almost suggested Brass in Pocket by the Pretenders - but Back in the Chain Gang is really good too.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun is on my ipod playlist. It is so 80's to me - love it!

Sister are doing it for themselves is great too. Both women are so different from each other but both have great voices and are a credit to their gender :)

I listened to Somewhere Between Old and New York but since baseball isnt really played here - it probably doesnt have the same impact on me.
I understand about songs about sports though. We have a famous one here called Up There Cazaly

:)

Yay! :D

What a great selection! I can't wait to find some nice suggestions for this promising theme! I'm really happy to see lots of thoughtful commenters this time around (and Allira - wow! That post was a pleasure to read!). I think the threat of discontinuing the feature was a clever and effective move! xD

All right then - the songs are waiting!

punkaJul 02, 2012 3:58 pm
Wow! No way could I only pick 2, so many many great choices! Fabulous selection! Great job everyone!!

lovemeavivaJul 02, 2012 4:56 pm
chains and sisters is what i think

ZeliksJul 02, 2012 6:22 pm
I'm really glad that Evanescence's "My Immortal" was chosen! One of my fave songs by them <3 I personally think that "Bring Me to Life" is a bit over rated, and when I skimmed over the artist name selections, I immediately figured that would be it. However, I then looked over the song titles, and I admit, I fanboyed a little XD Squeaky happy Dren is squeaky and happy!

I'm also a little sad to see that there were no Heart selections, but as stated above, the Evanescence song made me happy, so that evens it out!

I personally suggest that anyone who likes or loves "My Immortal" listen to a live version. Just as beautiful as the studio recording <3

Gotta admit, also giggled at seeing Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want To Have Fun". It couldn't be an all female singer selection without it!! Every great female vocal mix tape/cd/playlist needs it!

I'll have to go through and listen to the others some time, a few of the titles are quite interesting =D <3

Congratulations to everyone who had their songs chosen ^^

Allie, "somewhere between old and New York" is actually a metaphor song. It uses baseball as the metaphor for the old mans lost dreams. The lyric talks about how he imagines himself as a baseball great while plying the trade he has, which is shoe shine. And he imagines that what he is doing is playing ball, rather than the reality. It's a poignant commentary on those of us who are Mr./ Ms. everyman with dreams and longings that go undone... but never quite totally forgotten.

brenneJul 02, 2012 6:34 pm
My hubby is now a Loreen McKennit fan after listening to me playing it. LOL Awesome pics.

ZeliksJul 02, 2012 6:45 pm
Oh, and I just realized something! Within Temptation did a cover of "Running up That Hill". All this time I thought that it was something they'd written on their own. Link below to their cover/music video!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnHkmYTQg-I

I believe that Within Temptation have given the song a new sort of life and adapted it to modern times, if that makes sense? XD It's wonderful, and finding out that it was a cover is quite interesting, and I can see why the band would cover such an amazing track!!

Learn something new everyday, I guess =D

singleroseJul 02, 2012 7:04 pm
All the "ladies" songs were great choices. Alex I must admit though I had to go listen to all three of your choices. Hadn't heard any of them...but they are all great songs. Lots of feelings.

mrsgunsageJul 02, 2012 7:32 pm
Loreena McKennit has been a favorite of mine for several years. That ethereal voice of hers is just phenomenal.

Kami Mi Ke NekoJul 02, 2012 8:17 pm
Yesh, love love love Loreena McKennit. And All Souls Night is one of the best ones. :D IMHO of course.

I'm super pleased that "Girls just wanna have fun" was chosen. Why, you might ask?

I'm a Weird Al fan. Thus, I never hear THAT song, I hear THIS one: http://youtu.be/bu6HJDYWf68

*points* Go listen and giggle. I adore parodies of songs. That SHOULD be a category. Song parodies! I bet there are a TON out there that I've never heard of. And I mean a true parody of a song, a humorous or satirical imitation of a song - mostly humorous. ;)

Billy The KidJul 04, 2012 2:24 pm
I was REALLY tempted to offer some Justin Beiber songs for this section, but somehow restrained myself.
